What were Asia’s most popular Google searches for 2012? Data released by the search-engine giant on Thursday revealed a few terms you’d expect – and also turned up a few surprises.
2012年亚洲最热门的搜索词汇是什么？周四发布的搜索引擎数据告诉了我们一点儿——甚至还给了我们一些惊喜。

Gangnam, the upscale Seoul district, was virtually unheard of outside Korea before Psy’s “Gangnam Style” song and music video went viral. Now Psy is a household name, and his horsey dance as widespread as the “Macarena” was in 1994.

江南style，首尔的江南地区，在同名歌曲和MV走红前从不为人所知。现在PSY已经家喻户晓，他的马蹄舞也像1994年的“Macarena”舞一样被疯狂模仿。

Not everyone in Asia cared, however. K-pop-savvy Japan didn’t respond to the hype, while India was more interested in Bollywood and its stars. “Gangnam Style,” meanwhile, was the most-watched music video in Taiwan, but people there searched for it on YouTube instead of Google.

不过不是所有亚洲人都关心这个。深知K POP的日本人就不鸟它，印度人更热爱宝莱坞。江南style，在台湾是被最多人观看的视屏，但是人们直接在YOUTUBE上搜索而不是google。

Not all of Asia took an interest in international sports, either. The Olympics were big in China, Japan and South Korea, but they didn’t turn up in searches from India, Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia or Taiwan – all areas with low medal counts this year. Think Euro 2012 was a big deal? Nowhere but Japan, Hong Kong and Singapore agreed with you.

也不是所有亚洲人都对国际运动感兴趣。奥运会在中国，日本和韩国很受欢迎，但在印度，马来西亚，菲律宾和印度尼西亚以及台湾则受到冷落——这些国家今年都没得到什么奖牌。而只有日本，香港和新加坡的网友认为2012欧洲杯很重要。

Psy wasn’t the only pop-culture phenomenon to dominate Google searches. Former Knicks player Jeremy Lin was a favorite across Asia, particularly in Singapore and Greater China. Whitney Houston, who died in February, was also what Google called a “universal search term,” while TV singing contest “The Voice” was searched for in countries including Vietnam, Australia and China (Indonesia, for its part, preferred “Indonesian Idol”).

PSY并不是google搜索中唯一的流行文化现象。林书豪也在亚洲广受人喜爱，特别是新加坡和大中华圈。2月份去世的惠特尼 休斯顿，也在google上引发了国际搜索狂潮。TV节目“好声音”席卷了中国、越南和澳大利亚。印度尼西亚则更喜欢“印尼偶像”。

As for the U.S. election? Singapore was the only place where people searched for it in large numbers.
